There are seven variants, OMPT-A to OMPT-G, and your programme — not you — decides which one counts. Buying the wrong variant wastes an attempt and the fee. Confirm the exact letter and minimum score on your programme's admission page first.
Register at the official site (app.omptest.org) and connect your account to the university you're applying to, so your score can be reported to them.
Buy the attempt for your variant in the omptest.org store. Once purchased, a “Go to ProctorU” button appears in your dashboard — that's where booking happens. Attempts are bought one at a time, and not every programme allows the standard maximum of 3 attempts, so don't burn one casually.
OMPT uses ProctorU for live online proctoring. Register with ProctorU from your dashboard, run the equipment check (webcam, microphone, connection), then pick a date and time. The official rule: schedule your test at least 72 hours in advance — short-notice slots cost an additional fee. You can cancel or reschedule; the exact conditions are in the omptest.org knowledge base.
The pre-test check takes about 5–10 minutes and is not subtracted from your test time. Official requirements:

You receive a digital certificate with your score per topic within 8 business days, counted from the day after your test. How long the certificate stays valid for admission is not published by OMPT; each university sets its own rule, so verify on your programme's page.

Grading takes up to 8 business days from the day after the test — roughly a week and a half on the calendar. Sitting later than this means gambling on the grading queue.
If attempt one goes wrong, a retake cycle needs its own booking (≥ 72 hours ahead) plus another grading window: budget roughly 3 weeks per full cycle. Sitting your first attempt a month before the last safe date keeps one retake realistic.
One to two weeks before the real thing, sit a full mock exam under exam conditions — on-screen calculator only, typed answers, the clock running. This is where pacing problems show up while they're still free to fix.
Official recommended prep ranges from about 40 hours (OMPT-C) to about 120 hours (OMPT-D, OMPT-E) depending on the variant and your starting level. Six to ten weeks at a steady pace covers it; a free placement test tells you which end of that range you're on.
