The recurring, avoidable ways prepared people still lose marks.
Answers are typed and checked by a CAS — the exact symbolic form is expected. A rounded decimal where an exact fraction is asked, an unsimplified radical, a dropped minus sign: correct working, zero marks. Practise entering answers, not just finding them.
Fast variants (A: under 2.5 min/question) punish perfectionism; slow variants (D, F, G) punish drifting inside multi-step problems. Either way the fix is the same: know your per-question budget and flag anything that blows past it.
Roughly 40% of the OMPT-E syllabus is statistics & probability — the part most applicants never formally studied. Revising only the familiar algebra feels productive and caps your score around the cutoff line.
On the real test only the on-screen OMPT calculator is allowed. If your phone's calculator did your arithmetic for three months, exam day is the wrong moment to discover how slow you are without it.
Doing exercises in comfortable 20-minute chunks is not the same skill as holding concentration for 120–180 minutes under proctoring. Sit at least one full-length mock before the real thing.
Attempts are limited — up to 3 at most, and not every programme allows all of them. Sitting the real exam "to see what it's like" spends a scarce attempt on information a practice test gives you for free.
There isn't an official pass rate — each university sets its own pass mark (published examples run roughly 55% to 75%). The official figure that exists is an average first-attempt score: 76% for students who used the learning materials vs 40% for those who didn't.
By published workload, OMPT-D: the biggest syllabus (242 topics, ~120 h recommended prep) and long multi-step calculus problems. OMPT-B has the most questions (64 in 150 minutes). But "hardest for you" depends on your background — OMPT-E's statistics half is the wall for many who'd cruise through A.
