OMPT-G deep dive

OMPT-G — format, topics & how to prepare.

The OMPT-G adds science on top of maths: a maths core plus physics and chemistry chapters, including mechanics. Broader than a pure-maths OMPT. Here's the format, what's actually on it, and how to train.

What it covers.

A maths core, plus physics and chemistry chapters including mechanics — broader than a pure-maths OMPT.

Maths core
Linear formulas & equations7%
Systems of linear equations5%
Quadratic equations8%
Functions17%
Exponentials & logarithms8%
Sequences & series10%
Trigonometry15%
Geometry10%
Science (physics & chemistry)
Mechanics — 1D & 2D motion4%
Forces & Newton's laws3%
Work & energy3%
Introductory chemistry10%
The science block is what sets the OMPT-G apart. If your last physics class was a while ago, mechanics (motion, forces, energy) is where to spend your time.

omptest.org does publish the weighting of each exam — not on the syllabus page, which is where we looked for years, but on its learning assessment page, read on 11 August 2026: Functions, graphs and equations 45% · Sequences & series 10% · Trigonometric functions 15% · Geometry and coordinates 10% · Mechanics 10% · Chemistry 10%. The bars above are those percentages, and the right-hand column is the official share itself. Where one official group covers several chapters listed above, the group's percentage is split between them in proportion to the topic counts omptest.org publishes in the syllabus — that split is our deduction, and the only one on this page. Note how small the science half really is: mechanics and chemistry are 10% each, 20% together. Until August 2026 our mock exams gave mechanics alone 27%. Our mock exams draw on exactly these numbers: the bars on this page and the weights our engine draws from are the same file, and the build fails if they ever disagree.

Compare the variants
Don't guess the variant. The OMPT-G is one of the less common tests, and programme requirements change year to year. Your programme's admission page lists the exact OMPT letter it asks for — treat that as the source of truth, not this page.

Universities that ask for OMPT-G.

Honest answer: few programmes list this variant publicly.

None of the universities in our directory currently names OMPT-G on its public admission pages — it's the rarest of the seven variants, used by programmes that need combined maths and introductory physics or chemistry. If your admission page or letter names OMPT-G, that's your source of truth. If you're not sure which variant you need, compare all OMPT variants →

How to prepare with OMPT Trainer.

1

Diagnose for free

Start with a free practice test to see where you stand. You get an instant per-topic breakdown so you know whether maths or the science block is your weak side.

2

Drill maths and mechanics, calculator-free

Work the maths core and the physics chapters — 1D/2D motion, forces & Newton's laws, work & energy — using only the on-screen scientific calculator, exactly like the real exam.

3

Simulate full length, then book

26 questions, 180 minutes. Sit a timed mock until you score comfortably above your programme's cutoff — only then spend the 240 €.

Read up on what makes the OMPT hard — with physics and chemistry on top of the maths core, pacing matters even more on G. Find your target in the sourced OMPT passing-scores table, then simulate exam conditions with a free OMPT mock exam — the OMPT-G mock exam runs G's exact format. It's also worth knowing whether you can retake OMPT-G and how many attempts your university allows, and planning around the 2026 OMPT deadlines and Studielink dates.

FAQ

How long is the OMPT-G, and how many questions?

26 questions in 180 minutes — close to 7 minutes per question. It's longer per question than most OMPT variants because the science items take more working.

How is it different from a pure-maths OMPT?

The OMPT-G adds science on top of maths. It keeps a maths core (linear & quadratic equations, systems, functions, exponentials & logarithms, sequences, trigonometry, geometry) and adds physics and chemistry chapters, including mechanics — 1D/2D motion, forces & Newton's laws, work & energy. A pure-maths OMPT such as the OMPT-A or OMPT-E has none of that science.

Can I use a calculator?

Not your own. A scientific digital calculator is provided inside the platform — the OMPT-G gets the scientific one, not the basic one. Questions are still designed to be solvable without a graphing calculator. Train that way.

What score do I need to pass?

It depends on your university and programme. Published cutoffs for OMPT tests range roughly from 55% up to about 75% for the most demanding programmes. Always confirm on your programme's admission page.

How much does it cost and how many attempts do I get?

An official OMPT-G attempt costs 240 €, purchased separately each time. Most programmes allow 2 attempts; Utrecht allows up to 3 and Erasmus School of Economics only 1 — check your programme. Results take up to 8 working days.

How do I book the official OMPT-G?

On the official omptest.org site, at least 72 hours ahead of your slot. We've written a step-by-step walkthrough: how to book the OMPT →

Is this the official OMPT website?

No. OMPT Trainer is an independent practice resource, not affiliated with SOWISO or the official exam. Book the real test on the official site; train here.
